Eco-Range Trailer & Bodywork

The Gray & Adams Eco-Range

The products that will be outlined in this section are highly in demand and are testament to Gray & Adams proactive approach to the changing market. A combination of operator desire to increase fleet efficiency and cut operating costs (fuel consumption in particular), coupled with increased environmental awareness and pressure from government to cut emissions have led Gray & Adams to invest significantly in this range.

Why is the Gray & Adam Eco-Range so Important?

Environmental Concerns

  • For every litre of diesel burnt, 2.63 kgs of CO2 is released into atmosphere
  • The UK is required to reduce total greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with the EU target: 'To ensure that global average temperature increases do not exceed pre-industrial levels by more than 2oC'.

Rising Fuel Costs: Volatility of World Oil Prices

  • According to a 2007 study carried out by the National Petroleum Council: the world is entering a period of growing demand amidst tightening supplies
  • Oil wells are quickly depleting
  • Demand is rising due to increasing populations in countries like India and China
  • New sources of oil  being targeted are typically more expensive to locate, extract and process

Rising Fuel Costs

  • Government taxes are constantly increasing
  • An average of £41,000 per year is spent on fuel alone -and that is only for one vehicle! (based on 80,000 miles per annum & £1 per litre of fuel)
  • According to the FTA, 55-59% of overall operating costs for artic vehicles are fuel costs
  • The cost of diesel increased by 22% between January and July 2008 - this demonstrates how quickly fluctuations in demand can affect the cost of fuel within a short period of time

What does all of this mean for Haulage / Distribution Companies?

  • Fuel costs are rising and evidence shows that they will continue to rise
  • It is almost certain that the Government will introduce incentives for companies helping to reduce emissions and/or penalties for companies not helping them to achieve their emissions targets
  • Fuel is an easy target for taxation so companies relying on transport will be hit hardest

Reducing emissions is fast becoming an important consideration within every business strategy for every company that operates commercial vehicles in order to survive!
