Utilising Pro-Engineer, the successful applicant shall be responsible for the creation of technical drawings specific to customer specification and will be an integral player within a team of design engineers and technicians.

Applicants will have a minimum of HNC in Mechanical Egineering or equivalent and should possess excellent CAD skills. Knowledge of Pro-Engineer / Autocad would be advantageous although not essential as training will be given. Experience of a manufacturing / fabrication environment would be extremely beneficial.

There are many different stages in the build process of a trailer which require a wide range of skills and expertise.  As an apprentice at Gray & Adams, you will have the opportunity to work in some or all of the following areas:

• Chassis Fabrication - High precision welding, lasering and steel fabrication.
• Painting - We have onsite spray booth facilities incorporating a recently installed electrostatic spray system in our chassis department.
• Panel Manufacturing - There are two methods of panel construction. The first involves cutting the construction material with CNC machines and building up the panel layers using automated gluing machines. The second involves injecting polyurethane foam within a panel which flows and expands into whatever configuration we require.
• Panel Assembly - This is where we assembly the panels into a body and mount them onto the chassis.
• Completion - Where all the finishing touches are carried out, requiring a particular eye for detail as this is the last stage before the customer receives the product.
• Electrics / Hydraulics - Installation of a wide variety of lighting systems, reversing systems, tail lifts and lifting deck control / safety systems.
• Fridge Installation - Installation, pipe work assembly, wiring and commissioning of the refrigeration units and evaporators.
• Repair Department - We also have an extensive repair department, including a recently installed commercial chassis straightening jig. Due to the spontaneous nature of repair work and the differing levels of damage no two jobs are alike.

You will also have the opportunity to attend a variety of internal courses, training schemes provided by many of our product suppliers and have the chance of off-site training at the Banff and Buchan college.
