3.5 Tonne Mobile Shop The Dressed Crab

This unusual design is a conversion of a Gray & Adams insulated box body based on a 3.5 tonne chassis. It is owned by a sole trader who uses it to transport fresh fish in a temperature-controlled environment, but the vehicle also doubles as a mobile sales unit. This twin compartment insulated body is refrigerated by a Carrier Xarios 150 unit with single-phase electric standby and incorporates a fixed bulkhead to give a 50/50 split for the body. The refrigeration unit cools the front area of the body where stock is stored. A 12-volt fan transfers air into the rear compartment as required.

Single side loading doors in the front compartment are incorporated on both sides for loading and unloading stock. A full width, hinged rear door gives access to the rear shop compartment in which fish is displayed and sold.

The rear compartment has a 100-litre stainless steel ice tray for displaying produce. A stainless steel sink with a 50-litre water tank is mounted to the underside of the body and has a pump fitted. Additional stainless steel display shelving is incorporated into the rear compartment bulkhead.

A hygienic nylon cutting area in the rear compartment can be removed for washing out the body. The ice tray is also removable. The polyester floor provides an anti-slip surface.
