Clinical Waste Vehicles

A Gray & Adams Clinical Waste VehicleAnother vehicle in the Gray & Adams portfolio that demonstrates the company’s ability to manufacture highly specified and highly regulated products is the clinical waste vehicle.

Since clinical waste is classified as a dangerous good, there is a need to comply with a number of government legislative requirements, all of which have been taken into consideration when designing these vehicles.

Key Features for Clinical Waste Vehicles:

  • The vehicles are comprised of twin-deck rigid bodies, with hydraulic lifting deck floors for increased capacity and working height. The vehicles are capable of carrying 36 medical bins in total: 18 on each level
  • Customised load restraint systems have been designed to ensure total load security
  • A number of health & safety features are included to protect the environment and vehicle operators from the hazards posed by the transportation of dangerous goods
  • Vehicles are supplied with a fully welded, waterproof chequerplate aluminium floor to minimise risk of contamination and for ease of cleaning
  • Dhollandia double deck tail lifts are included, which are equipped with additional semi-traction batteries and split charger systems because of their high duty cycle.
Chick Carrier

A Gray & Adams Chick CarrierThese dual-purpose vehicles are designed to alternate between the transportation of eggs and day-old chicks from hatcheries, under very complex environmental conditions. These insulated bodies are required to operate at different temperatures for each application: +18ºC for eggs and +24 ºC for chicks. A combination of heating, cooling and ventilation systems is necessary to minimise the discomfort and mortality of chicks. A number of health and safety features as well as load restraint systems are available.

Key Features of Chick Carriers:

  • A bulkhead-mounted refrigeration unit or a combination of heat and air conditioning is used to control temperature
  • An air exchange system is integrated into the design, whereby the hot or cold air is mixed with ambient air to the correct temperature in a plenum chamber at the front bulkhead, which is then pumped around the body. There are several different methods of achieving the critical temperature from basic manual controls to very sophisticated electronic systems
  • Load restraint is usually fitted with width restrictors to accommodate different loading configurations
  • Loading is carried out from the rear via double doors but an optional side door can be included in the design for emergency off-loading
  • Internal fumigation and external wheel disinfectant systems are included to comply with health and safety legislation and to minimise the risk of infection or cross-contamination.
Mobile Shops

A Two Compartment Gray & Adams Mobile Shop with storage and sales areaMobile shops can be designed on any size of rigid body, from vehicles for 3.5 to 26 tonne operations. These vehicles are most commonly used for meat and fish applications but since each vehicle is bespoke designed and built, they can be adapted to suit many different operations, from fruit and vegetables, to ice cream or dairy products. Members of the farming community are increasingly benefiting from mobile shop facilities as a method of directly selling their own produce.

Gray & Adams mobile shops are constructed using insulated panels and incorporate health and safety features that prevent cross-contamination and increase safety for operators, such as easily cleaned, smooth, non-porous walls and ceilings and easily cleaned, non-slip floors.

These vehicles are usually comprised of two compartments: one for storing and transporting products at a controlled temperature and one for displaying and selling the products. Mobile units come equipped with washing, cutting and display facilities similar to a conventional shop. Side doors open to display cabinets for selling produce to customers.
