14 May Customer Case Study – Gregory Group
About Gregory Group
Gregory Group has been delivering visionary logistics for over a century. From origins in Devon delivering coal by horse and cart, they have grown to be a leader in UK logistics. Today, Gregory Group is supporting hundreds of businesses in the transportation and storage of their goods. From the fast-paced retail and dairy industries to the specialist sectors such as forestry and energy.
Gregory has been in partnership with Gray & Adams for over 30 years. As a premium manufacturer, Gregory values strong working relationships, ensuring product quality and operational efficiency, which is why they continuously turn to Gray & Adams.
We caught up with Liam Dickinson, Head of Fleet Engineering, who oversees group engineering, fleet build specification and OEM product for Gregory Group. Most recently, Liam coordinated the Group’s requirements for the replacement fleet of 15 temperature-controlled Gray & Adams trailers.
Customer Requirement
Gregory has a well-defined fleet replacement cycle, typically running refrigerated units for 11 years. This long-standing relationship is built on trust and consistent performance, with a continued commitment to maintaining this partnership.
In the past, the Group fleet has included a mix of Gray & Adams trailers and other refrigerated trailer suppliers, but Gray & Adams were chosen for this order due to the durability and high-quality build of their trailers.
The latest project involved upgrading their fleet to meet operational and efficiency demands.
Gray & Adams Solution
To meet Gregory Group’s specific operational needs, Gray & Adams provided a tailored solution by splitting the order into:
- 13 dual-temperature trailers
- 2 single-temperature trailers
Of the dual-temperature trailers, seven were fitted with Thermo King A-500 refrigeration units, while the remaining were equipped with Carrier Vector HE19 units. Gregory Group trailer specifications are highly bespoke, requiring modifications such as roller shutters to accommodate operational demands as part of this particular order.
Gray & Adams Added Value
Gregory Group’s experience with Gray & Adams has been overwhelmingly positive, with exceptional communication and support from the Gray & Adams team throughout the project.
Liam comments, “Ryan Mazgaj’s assistance played a crucial role in shaping the latest order. This collaboration has reinforced our confidence in Gray & Adam’s ability to meet our evolving needs.”
Customer Impact
Gray & Adams will continue to be a key supplier for Gregory Group due to the bespoke nature of their trailers, with future orders already planned.
Gregory currently operates on a fleet of c.250 temperature-control trailers, with the current replacement policy dictating around 20 temperature-controlled trailers annually, ensuring they stay ahead in efficiency and sustainability. The company has ambitious net-zero targets, aiming for a 40% carbon reduction by 2030 and complete net-zero operations by 2038.
While this replacement cycle does not yet include major sustainability upgrades, Gregory Group expects future orders to incorporate innovative features such as axle regeneration and solar-powered refrigeration units which are already scheduled for trial in 2025.
